Start Date: Sep 13, 2021
Length: 13 weeks
Role: Health Disparities Analyst (BI Developer / Analyst)
***Remote - but needs to be local to Portland, OR area***
Shift: 5X8 Days; 8AM to 5PM, 1 hour lunch
Position Summary: The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions. Today, we can predict an Oregonian’s health based on factors like their race, income, education level, or zip code.
This often means that people of color, individuals with less economic opportunity, and/or living in communities with fewer resources realize increased barriers to good health. As a result, some Oregonians face significant, ongoing, and preventable health disparities or differences in health outcomes. OHSU is seeking, through improved analytics, to better understand the causes of these health inequities, including those that may exist within our own health system. Leveraging their technical and data domain expertise, the Health Disparities Analyst is charged developing and optimizing the health disparities data core. This data core is an essential foundation that will enable us to identify opportunities, deploy solutions meant to reduce disparities, and monitor key metrics that reveal the effectiveness of these programs. The Health Disparities Analyst is a user facing role, responsible for soliciting and documenting business requirements from leadership and staff. Solution development of the health disparities data core will follow the OHSU’s Agile Software Development methodology, adhering to data governance, data security, change management, and reporting solution standards. In order to ensure user adoption, the Health Disparities Analyst will carry out detailed data analysis and validation, iterating with clinical users and fellow Population Health Analytics team members to resolve data gaps or inconsistencies in the reporting solution. This position will require Epic certification/accreditation in Healthy Planet, Cogito, or the Clarity/Caboodle data model within 9 months of hire. The Health Disparities Analyst will possess strong developer capabilities with Business Intelligence applications necessary to support the health disparities data core. Depending on business need, these capabilities may include SAP Business Objects reporting, Tableau dashboards, Power BI, or custom data queries for analytics. Prior experience developing reports and dashboards using a Business Intelligence tool with a Data Warehouse as a source and strong SQL skills are required. The ideal candidate will possess a good understanding of healthcare terminology.
Top candidates also have experience navigating Epic EMR Record Viewer, SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench, Clarity & Caboodle Data Dictionaries, as well as experience developing reports and dashboards using the Epic Caboodle Data Warehouse and Epic Clarity Data model as the foundation.
Training will be provided for those candidates who do not have prior Epic Systems EMR experience. The Incumbent will observe due care, objectivity and respect for confidentiality. All employees must keep confidential what they hear and what they see when handling, reviewing, or observing: communications and records thereof (calls, email, pages, fax, etc.), data transmission, databases, or other forms of information. Confidentiality extends to the identities of the parties of the communications, and even to the fact that the communication took place. When sharing information, consider whether the recipient has a true “business need to know.” ITG employees are responsible for the security of OHSU technology. In exercising their duties, ITG employees must follow OHSU security directives, incorporating security measures in the delivery of their everyday tasks, and are required to report security concerns to the ITG Security Engineering team.
